Truth in Use: Blind testing in real-world environments for responsible portfolio decision-making.

Context

We support a brand in the child hygiene, currently in the process of developing and validating new formulations for its products, with a focus on the Classes C and D.

In a highly competitive, price-sensitive market that is becoming increasingly demanding in performance, comfort, and safety, the company needed to make critical decisions before moving forward with the portfolio: whether to launch, adjust, or discontinue products.

More than just laboratory tests, it was necessary to understand actual use, in the daily lives of families, where trust is built—or lost—with every experience.

The Challenge

The project began with three central questions:

→ How do mothers, fathers, and caregivers from socioeconomic classes C and D perceive their practical experience with early childhood hygiene products, without brand influence?
→ Among three different product formulations, which one delivers the best performance, acceptance, and reliability?
→ What insights could provide credible social proof to guide development, communication, and sales pitches?

The response required technical precision, ethical care, and a close understanding of these families’ reality.

The Approach

We designed a real-world blind product test, combining methodological rigor with keen observation of everyday life.

Methods used:

→ Structured evaluation forms
→ Online interviews (individual and group)
→ Daily updates with text, photos, and videos
→ Individual support from a researcher throughout the entire period
Key learning

The survey revealed something essential: Technical performance and context go hand in hand.

Laboratory tests are no substitute for real-world use. Especially when it comes to childcare, it’s in the daily grind—amidst fatigue, rush, sleepless nights, and unpredictable situations—that a product truly proves its worth.

This project showed that listen deeply to those who use it avoids risky launches, protects the brand, and turns data into informed decisions.
